📖 Instruction for Use

Dosage

• Standard Adult Dosage: 1.5g (Ceftriaxone 1000mg + Sulbactam 500mg) once or twice daily
• Severe Infections: Up to 3g (2 vials) daily in divided doses
• Dosage adjustments may be needed based on:
  • Severity of infection
  • Susceptibility of the causative organism
  • Patient's renal/hepatic function

Administration

• UPRIDEN CEF SB is administered by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection
• For IV use:
  • Reconstitute with appropriate diluent
  • Infuse slowly over 30 minutes
• For IM use:
  • Reconstitute with lidocaine solution to minimize injection pain
  • Inject deeply into a large muscle mass
• Duration of therapy is typically 5-14 days, depending on the type and severity of infection

⏱️ Forget/Missed Doses

If a dose of UPRIDEN CEF SB is missed:

• Administer it as soon as possible
• If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule
• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose
• For hospital-administered doses, inform the healthcare staff about any scheduling concerns

🧬 How this Works

UPRIDEN CEF SB works through the complementary actions of its two components:

1. Ceftriaxone (1000mg):
   • A third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic
   • Binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in bacterial cell walls
   • Prevents cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death
   • Has extended spectrum activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
2. Sulbactam (500mg):
   • A beta-lactamase inhibitor
   • Irreversibly binds to and inactivates bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes
   • Prevents the degradation of ceftriaxone by these enzymes
   • Extends the spectrum of activity to include beta-lactamase producing strains
   • Has some intrinsic antibacterial activity against certain organisms

The combination provides synergistic action against many bacterial pathogens, including those that have developed resistance to ceftriaxone alone.

🛡️ Storage

• Store UPRIDEN CEF SB powder at temperature not exceeding 25°C
• Protect from light and moisture
• Keep in original packaging until ready to use
• After reconstitution:
  • IV solution is stable for 24 hours at room temperature or 3 days if refrigerated
  • IM solution should be used immediately
• Discard any unused portion as per hospital or institutional guidelines
• Keep out of reach of children

Common Side Effects

🔁 Over Doses

Symptoms of Overdose

• Neurological symptoms: seizures, encephalopathy
• Nausea, vomiting
• Abnormal liver function
• Changes in blood counts
• Renal impairment

Action in Case of Overdose

• No specific antidote exists
• Discontinue the medication immediately
• Provide supportive care and symptomatic treatment
• Hemodialysis is not effective in removing ceftriaxone or sulbactam
• Monitor vital signs, kidney function, and electrolyte balance

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
